Pedestrian Struck, Killed on LA 415 in West Baton Rouge

BATON ROUGE – A pedestrian was killed last night when he stepped into the path of a pickup truck on LA 415 north of LA 76 near Krawdaddy’s Store and Casino shortly before 11:00 pm. Joseph H. Collins, Jr. (W/M, age 42) of Dutchtown was attempting to cross LA 415 when he stepped into the on-coming path of a 1991 Chevrolet Pickup. The driver of the pickup, Offie J. Stewart Jr. (W/M, age 73) of Port Allen, was traveling south on LA 415 in the right travel lane when the crash occurred. The front left fender of Stewart’s pickup struck Collins, killing him instantly.

Stewart was treated for minor injuries at Baton Rouge General Mid-City Hospital. His arm was partially out of the driver’s window and was struck by Collins. Alcohol is not suspected to have been a factor in the crash; however, Troopers have submitted samples of Stewart’s and Collins’ blood to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for chemical analysis.
