HEADQUARTERS NEWS RELEASE November 3, 2015 Troopers Obtain 18 Arrest Warrants in New Orleans Area Insurance Fraud Investigations New Orleans, LA – Over the past two days, Troopers conducted a sweep across the New Orleans metropolitan area attempting to serve 18 arrest warrants for suspects involved in staged and/or “jump-in” crashes as a means to defraud multiple insurance companies. The warrant roundup resulted from nearly a dozen independent investigations conducted by the Louisiana State Police Insurance Fraud/Auto Theft Unit New Orleans field office. Throughout the investigative process, LSP Detectives worked closely with investigators and representatives from numerous insurance companies including Repwest, Progressive, State Farm, Imperial Fire and Casualty, and GEICO. Total financial exposure as a result of the fraudulent claims and practices is estimated to be over $165,000.
· During September of 2015, LSP Investigators received a referral from the Louisiana Department of Insurance in reference to possible insurance fraud involving GEICO Insurance Company. According to GEICO, a crash occurred on August 31, 2013, involving a listed policy holder. Two days after the accident, the policy holder’s cousin, 23 year old Brandon Jarrow of New Orleans, contacted GEICO and added himself as a passenger claiming injury. Upon further questioning, the policy holder provided a statement to GEICO indicating Jarrow was not inside her vehicle at the time of the crash. The statement was further supported by the crash report listing her as the only occupant. As a result of the investigation, it was shown that Jarrow filed a fraudulent injury claim resulting in a warrant issued for his arrest for one count of Insurance Fraud. The total financial exposure in this case was approximately $2,240.00. · Following an investigation into a complaint received by Progressive Insurance Company, Troopers obtained a warrant for 28 year old Archshana Young on one count of Insurance Fraud for her role in asserting occupancy, along with her two minor children, in an insured vehicle. The investigation revealed that on April 23, 2014, Young’s Toyota Camry was involved in a motor vehicle crash with a Chevy Silverado. At the time of the crash, Young’s Camry was being driven by a separate male driver who subsequently fled the scene. The driver of the Chevrolet Silverado and independent witnesses to the crash reported seeing no other occupants in the Toyota besides the male driver. That same day, Young contacted Progressive Insurance in pursuit of claims on behalf of herself and her children who were not occupants in the insured vehicle at the time of the crash. As a result of the investigation, the claim was denied and Young was found to have committed insurance fraud. The potential loss in this matter is estimated at $4,000. · In a continued investigation from December of 2014, Troopers obtained an arrest warrant for 35 year old Eric Kenner of Laplace, LA for his role in a staged crash. The investigation revealed that Kenner paid an accomplice to rent a U-Haul truck later used to intentionally crash into Kenner’s Cadillac Escalade. Following the staged crash, Kenner filed injury claims for himself and his 4 year old son. Upon further questioning, Kenner’s accomplice, Trevor Sanders, admitted to staging the crash and was arrested in March of 2015. Kenner remains at large at this time with a total financial exposure from the fraudulent claims at approximately $1557.00. As a result of these and several additional investigations into acts of alleged insurance fraud, Troopers have successfully served warrants on 9 individuals with additional arrests forthcoming.
