HEADQUARTERS – STATEWIDE NEWS RELEASE
September 16th, 2015

National Seat Check Saturday Events Scheduled Across Louisiana

It’s National Child Passenger Safety Week and nationally certified technicians from across the state are ready to conduct seat inspections ensuring the proper installation of your child’s safety seat. Throughout the week, child passenger safety checkup events will be held across numerous parishes providing parents and caregivers with life-saving information regarding the appropriate vehicle installation and best seat for each child’s age, weight, and height. In conjunction with the safety awareness campaign, Troopers and community safety partners will be organizing events across the state on National Seat Check Saturday, September 19, 2015. There is never a cost for the child seat installations/inspections; however, parents should anticipate approximately 30 minutes of inspection time per seat.

Child safety seats including booster seats offer the best protection for children in the event of a crash. When properly installed and used, child seats can reduce the risk of fatal injury by 71 percent for children younger than one and by 54 percent for children between 1 and 4 years old. With an estimated misuse rate of 3 out of 4 seats, parents and caregivers are urged to take advantage of events such as the National Child Seat Check Saturday to have child restraints in their vehicle checked free of charge.

Technicians from Louisiana State Police and the Louisiana Passenger Safety Task Force will be conducting events throughout the week leading up to National Seat Check Saturday on September 19, 2015:
