Louisiana State Police to Commence Cadet Class #94

BATON ROUGE Exactly one week after the tragic shooting of Senior Trooper Steven Vincent, the Louisiana State Police Training Academy will commence Cadet Class #94. This Sunday, August 30, 2015, a select group of men and women will report to the Louisiana State Police Training Academy in Baton Rouge to start 16 weeks of intense training before they earn the privilege of wearing the “Gold Boot” badge of the Louisiana State Police.

Throughout the 16 week academy, cadets will be given classroom instruction on topics such as state and federal laws, ethics, crash investigation, and impaired driver detection. The cadets will also participate in various practical and field training exercises consisting of scenario-based training, pursuit driving, firearms training, defensive tactics, and a rigorous daily physical fitness routine.

“It is a sad irony that as we continue to mourn the loss and honor the service of our fallen Trooper, we also welcome these new cadets into the State Police family,” said Colonel Edmonson. “These cadets have made a decision to embark on a lifetime of public service knowing that the extraordinary risks are real. It is now our duty to shape these cadets into well trained Louisiana State Troopers so that they may wear the State Police badge with professionalism and integrity. The path to graduation will not be easy; however, the reward is the opportunity to serve and protect the citizens of Louisiana.”

Cadet Class #94 is the third State Police cadet class to be held since January of 2014. Cadet Class #92 graduated 46 Troopers on May 22, 2014 and Cadet Class #93 graduated 58 Troopers on April 10, 2015. The candidates for State Police Cadet Class #94 were chosen after completing an extensive hiring process. Upon successful completion of the LSP Training Academy, the newly graduated Troopers will participate in a 10-14 week field training program while supervised by a senior Louisiana State Trooper.
