Headquarters News Release February 2, 2015 State Police Arrest Office of Motor Vehicle Employee for Felony Theft BATON ROUGE – Earlier today, the Louisiana State Police arrested an Office of Motor Vehicles (OMV) employee after an internal audit by OMV Supervisors revealed missing funds. While performing motor vehicle quality reviews, OMV employees learned of discrepancies in financial records. An internal audit of the records showed that more than $4,000 was unaccounted for and several records were altered. OMV turned the information over to the Louisiana State Police who later developed Heather Prather, 34 y/o of Baker, as a suspect. LSP Investigators questioned Prather who admitted to stealing cash from motor vehicle transactions and falsifying public records in an attempt to conceal the theft. Investigators booked Prather into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on Felony Theft, Injuring Public Records and Malfeasance in Office. Prather has been an employee of the Office of Motor Vehicles for eight years and has been placed on administrative leave pending an Internal Affairs Investigation by Louisiana State Police. “Checks and balances are a necessary process to ensure that financial transactions and records are always accurate,” stated Stephen F. Campbell, Commissioner of Motor Vehicles. “The Office of Motor Vehicles is dedicated to ensuring that we serve the public in the most professional and honest manner.” Contact Information: Lt. J.B.
