TROOP A NEWS RELEASE May 4, 2014 Restrained Driver to be Honored for Surviving Motor Vehicle Crash Baton Rouge – On Monday, May 5, 2014, Louisiana State Police and the Interim LSU Hospital will present a Baton Rouge woman with the “Saved by the Belt” Award on behalf of the Capital Region Transportation Safety Coalition. The award will be given to the recipient at 9:00 AM at the Louisiana Municipal Association located at 700 North 10th St. in Baton Rouge. The award recipient was recently involved in a crash in the Baton Rouge area. She made the decision to buckle up when she got into the vehicle, and that decision proved to be effective when her vehicle was hit by another driver. When a seat belt is worn properly, it not only prevents ejection from a vehicle but also greatly reduces the chances of sustaining significant injuries. During the presentation, photos and descriptions of the crash investigation will be available. Motor vehicle crashes are the single greatest cause of death and disability for people ages 1 to 34 and are the leading cause of injury related deaths among people of all ages. Last year, over 72,000 people were injured in motor vehicle crashes in Louisiana. Louisiana law requires all occupants, regardless of seating position, to be properly restrained. Crashes can happen at any time, on any day and the greatest chance of surviving a horrific crash is to Buckle Up. **All media outlets are invited and encouraged to attend.** Contact Information: | |||
