Colonel Edmonson Conducts Orientation for Louisiana State Police Cadet Class #93

BATON ROUGE This morning, State Police Superintendent Colonel Mike Edmonson welcomed the future cadets of the upcoming State Police Cadet Class #93. Colonel Edmonson spent the morning addressing the future cadets and their family members about the honor of being selected to begin training. This weekend, the Louisiana State Police Training Academy will welcome this select group of men and women aspiring to serve the citizens of Louisiana as State Troopers. After spending the Thanksgiving holidays with their families, the cadets will report to the LSP Training Academy in Baton Rouge on Sunday, November 30th, to start 20 weeks of intensive training before they earn the privilege of wearing the ”gold boot” badge of the Louisiana State Police.

The 20 week academy will include classroom instruction on topics such as state and federal laws, ethics, crash investigation, and impaired driver detection. The cadets will also participate in various practical and field training exercises consisting of scenario-based training, pursuit driving, firearms training, defensive tactics, and a rigorous daily physical fitness routine.

“I am very proud to welcome these new cadets into the State Police family,” said Colonel Edmonson. “Shaping these cadets into Louisiana State Troopers is a tremendous responsibility. Wearing the State Police badge is a privilege earned, and their training program will be guided by the Core Values of the Louisiana State Police. The path to graduation is not easy; however, the reward is the opportunity to serve and protect the citizens of Louisiana.”

Cadet Class #93 marks only the second State Police cadet class to be held since September of 2008. Cadet Class #92 graduated 46 Troopers on May 22nd of this year. The candidates for State Police Cadet Class #93 were chosen after completing an extensive hiring process.
