Four Arrested in Casino Chip Theft Scheme

Baton Rouge – Investigators with the Louisiana State Police Gaming Enforcement Division arrested four men suspected of cheating a Baton Rouge area casino out of approximately $13,000. The arrests were the culmination of an investigation into a group of individuals who were manipulating the roulette game to steal casino chips.

In December of 2015, Investigators were contacted by casino staff of a patron attempting to enter the casino floor. The patron had previously been observed cheating at the roulette table on June 30, 2015. Investigators identified the patron as Emiliano Jaquez-Rodriguez (H/M, 31 yoa), and were able to determine that in June Jaquez-Rodriguez and a group of men (known to travel the country cheating and stealing from casinos) instigated a chip stealing scam at the roulette tables. By working together the men would covertly steal chips from the tables, and then cash them out for profit. Jaquez-Rodriguez left the casino before Investigators could confront him regarding the scheme.

Along with Jaquez-Rodriguez, Investigators were able to identify Erit X. Cabrera (H/M, 29 yoa), Ronny J. Dominguez (H/M, 29 yoa), Edward Calletano (H/M, 28 yoa), and Joe Diaz (H/M, 38 yoa). Warrants were signed through the 19th Judicial District Court charging all five individuals with LRS 14:67.18 - Cheating and swindling, and LRS 14:26 - Criminal conspiracy.
