HEADQUARTERS NEWS RELEASE June 24, 2016 E. Feliciana Parish Double Homicide Suspect Returned to Louisiana After Being Located in Germany Baton Rouge – On April 27, 2014, Louisiana State Police Detectives and the East Feliciana Parish Sheriff’s Office (with the assistance of Homeland Security Investigations) began investigating a double homicide in the town of Ethel when Edward and Connie Hall were found deceased in their home. Through the course of the investigation, investigators established two suspects, Armando Reyes Diaz (H/M, 33 yoa) and Dulce Maria Funez (H/F, 31 yoa). Investigators developed enough probable cause to obtain warrants for both Reyes Dias and Funez, charging each with two counts of first degree murder. Both were indicted by an E. Feliciana Parish grand jury on May 20, 2014. Funez and Reyes Diaz have been fugitives since that time, and the United States Marshals Service assumed the lead role in locating them. In December of 2015, law enforcement authorities in Germany made contact with Funez on an unrelated incident, and discovered that she was wanted in the United States on the warrant. She was placed under arrest, and has since been detained pending an order of extradition from German authorities. The United States Department of Justice, working closely with the 20th Judicial District Attorney’s Office, the U.S. Marshals Service, and investigators worked to provide the necessary information to ensure that Funez would be extradited back to Louisiana. On June 15, 2016, German courts found Funez to be extraditable, and on June 24, 2016 she was transported by Deputy U.S. Marshals from Germany to Baton Rouge. Funez will be booked into the E. Feliciana Parish Jail for two counts of first degree murder in the deaths of Edward and Connie Hall. Investigators are still attempting to locate Armando Reyes Diaz. The Louisiana Department of Probation and Parole, the East Baton Rouge Violent Crimes Task Force, and Crime Stoppers were also instrumental in returning Funez to Louisiana. “This is an example of how law enforcement partnerships can achieve positive results stretching from rural Louisiana to across the globe,” said Colonel Mike Edmonson, State Police Superintendent. “Officers from all agencies involved have gone above and beyond to bring this suspect closer to justice, and in doing so help bring this tragic case one step closer to completion.” If you have any information related to Reyes Diaz, contact Louisiana State Police Communications at 225-925-6536 or Crime Stoppers at 344-STOP (7867), text CS225 plus your message to CRIMES (274637) or submit an anonymous tip on the Crime Stoppers Facebook page or website (www.crimestoppersbr.com).
