TROOP G - NEWS RELEASE November 10, 2012 Fatal crash in DeSoto Parish On November 9, 2012, shortly before 10:30 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop G investigated a one vehicle crash on Interstate 49 just south of LA 177 in DeSoto Parish that claimed the life of a Marthaville man. The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2004 Chevrolet pickup driven by 58-year-old Robert Thompson of Marthaville was traveling south on Interstate 49 when, for reasons still under investigation, Thompson swerved abruptly and lost control of his vehicle. After losing control, Thompson’s vehicle overturned. Thompson was not wearing his seatbelt during the crash and his injuries were fatal. Thompson was pronounced dead at the scene by the DeSoto Parish Coroner Toxicology samples were obtained and submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation. The majority of fatal and serious injury crashes involve occupants who are not wearing seat belts. Troopers would like to remind motorists of the importance of being properly restrained at all times in every seating position in the vehicle. Buckle up Louisiana. Every trip. Every time.
