TROOP G - NEWS RELEASE

November 2, 2012
Fatal crash in Webster Parish

On November 2, 2012, shortly after 12:30 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop G investigated a two vehicle crash on US Highway 371 about two miles south of LA Highway 531 in Webster Parish that claimed the life of a Coushatta man.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 1996 Ford Aero Van driven by 66-year-old Bobby Young of Coushatta was traveling north on US Highway 371, when for reasons still under investigation, Young’s vehicle crossed the center line and struck a 1998 Peterbilt fully loaded log truck driven by 49-year-old Herbert Sawyer of West Monroe head-on. Young’s vehicle then exited the right side of the roadway and overturned. Young was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash and was ejected from the vehicle. Young was pronounced dead at the scene by the Webster Parish Coroner.

Toxicology samples were obtained and submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.

The majority of fatal and serious injury crashes involve occupants who are not wearing seat belts. Troopers would like to remind motorists of the importance of being properly restrained at all times in every seating position in the vehicle. Buckle up Louisiana. Every trip. Every time.
