TROOP G - NEWS RELEASE

October 13, 2012
Fatal Crash in Bienville Parish

On October 13, 2012, shortly before 3:00 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop G investigated a one vehicle crash on LA Highway 154 about 6 miles south of LA Highway 4 in Bienville Parish that claimed the life of a Shreveport man.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 1996 Chevrolet Suburban driven by 48-year-old Randy Johnson of Shreveport, was traveling west on LA 154 in a left hand curve when it exited the right side of the roadway. Johnson then overcorrected to the left, lost control, and exited the left side of the roadway. Johnson overcorrected a second time to the right which caused his vehicle to re-enter the roadway and overturn as it exited the right side of the roadway.

Johnson was not restrained and was subsequently ejected during the crash. Johnson was transported to a local hospital by Life Air Rescue where he was pronounced dead.

Speed is suspected to be a factor in the crash. A toxicology sample was obtained from Johnson and will be submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.

The majority of fatal and serious injury crashes involve occupants who are not wearing seat belts. Louisiana state law requires vehicle occupants in every seating position to be properly restrained. The simple task of buckling up saves lives. Buckle up Louisiana. Every trip. Every time.
