TROOP G - NEWS RELEASE September 16, 2012 Fatal crash in Bossier Parish On September 16, 2012, shortly after 4:30 pm, Louisiana State Police Troop G investigated a two vehicle crash on LA Highway 164 in Bossier Parish that claimed the life of a teenager from Doyline. The preliminary investigation revealed that a 1999 Dodge Caravan driven by 17-year-old Joshua Kirkheart of Doyline was traveling east on LA Highway 164 when, for reasons still under investigation, Kirkheart crossed the center line and struck a 2006 Hyundi Elantra driven by 19-year-old Aaron Hickingbottom of Lubbock, TX head-on. Both drivers sustained life threatening injuries as a result of the crash. A passenger in the Dodge Caravan, 15-year-old Matthew Kirkheart, also of Dolyline sustained fatal injuries from the crash. Matthew Kirkheart was pronounced dead at the scene by the Bossier Parish Coroner. Toxicology samples were obtained and submitted for analysis. Charges are pending. This crash remains under investigation. Troopers urge motorists to remain vigilant while driving and remember that crashes are unexpected events. By taking precautionary steps including never driving while distracted or impaired and always obeying the laws of the road, motorists can substantially reduce their risk of being involved in a crash.
