TROOP A NEWS RELEASE Unrestrained Driver killed in Livingston Parish Crash Denham Springs– Shortly after 12:30am on June 24, 2019, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a single vehicle fatality crash on US Hwy 190 west of LA Hwy 1026 (Juban Rd.) in Livingston Parish. The crash claimed the life of 50-year-old Donald McGregor of Denham Springs. The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as McGregor was driving a 2009 GMC Sierra eastbound on US Hwy 190. For reasons still under investigation, the GMC ran off the roadway to the right and struck a metal bridge rail. The vehicle then traveled into a ditch and overturned. McGregor was unrestrained at the time of the crash and was partially ejected from the vehicle. He suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased on scene by the Livingston Parish Coroner’s Office. Impairment is unknown at this time, but a toxicology sample was obtained from McGregor and submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. This crash remains under investigation. This was the second Livingston Parish fatal crash involving an unrestrained driver investigated by Troop A over the weekend, the previous crash occurring in the same city less than 12 hours prior. Louisiana State Troopers want to remind motorists that all occupants in a vehicle must be restrained, regardless of seating position. While not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that the chances of surviving a crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Making good choices while in motor vehicles such as never driving while impaired and always ensuring every occupant is properly restrained can often mean the difference between life and death.
