Head-on Collision in Bossier Parish Claims The Lives of Two People

Haughton, LA-On April 1, 2013, shortly after 3:00 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop G investigated a two vehicle crash on Bellevue Road at Parker Road in Bossier Parish that claimed the lives of two people.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2001 Honda Odyssey driven by 17-year-old Kaitlin Smith of Haughton was traveling south on Bellevue Road when she entered a curve at a high rate of speed and lost control of her vehicle. Smith’s vehicle then exited the roadway and she over corrected, causing her vehicle to re-enter the roadway, cross the center line, and hit a 2003 Dodge Ram driven by 43-year-old Eddie La Croix head-on.

Smith and La Croix were restrained at the time of the crash and sustained fatal injuries. There were no additional occupants in either vehicle.

Excessive speed is suspected to be a factor in this crash.

Toxicology samples were obtained and submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.

Motorists should remain vigilant at all times while behind the wheel and follow all the rules of the road. Following the posted speed limit, never driving beyond the vehicle’s capabilities, always driving defensively, and never taking your eyes off the road are just a few ways to increase safety and decrease the chances of a motor vehicle crash occurring.
