TROOP G - NEWS RELEASE

February 10, 2013
Trooper Arrests Wanted Fugitive

On February 10, 2013, shortly after 10:30 a.m., a Louisiana State Trooper observed a 2010 Nissan Altima traveling east on Interstate 20, just west of Minden around mile post 53. It was raining at the time and the vehicle’s headlights were not on as required by state law.

The Trooper stopped the vehicle and determined that it was stolen. The Trooper made contact with the driver, 50-year-old Leonardo McClinton of Monroe, Louisiana, and attempted to take him into custody. McClinton then actively resisted arrest.

Shortly thereafter, an off-duty Texas police officer stopped and used her vehicle to prevent the Trooper from getting hit by traffic. McClinton was then taken into custody with the assistance of the off-duty Texas police officer and other responding Troopers.

As McClinton was being taken into custody, the off-duty Texas police officer’s vehicle was struck from behind by an 18-wheeler. The vehicles were damaged in the crash, but no one was injured.

It was also discovered that McClinton was wanted on charges from the Shreveport Police Department and the Bienville Parish Sheriff’s Office. McClinton was later transported to the Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Facility and booked for the following charges: headlamps not on when required, unauthorized use of a vehicle, 3-counts resisting arrest by force, 3-counts battery on a police officer, driving under suspension, open alcoholic beverage container, no seatbelt, fugitive from the Shreveport Police Department, and fugitive from the Bienville Parish Sheriff’s Office.
