TROOP G - NEWS RELEASE December 18, 2012 Suspect Arrested After Armed Bank Robbery MANSFIELD – Today, a Louisiana State Trooper, DeSoto Sheriff’s Deputies, and Mansfield Police Officers were able to successfully apprehend a suspect that was wanted for armed robbery of the Community Bank in Mansfield. On Tuesday, December 18, 2012, shortly after 12:00 p.m., the DeSoto Sheriff’s Office broadcasted a BOLO for a suspect (Later identified as 22 year-old Evan Towell of San Antonio, TX) who had just committed an armed robbery of the Community Bank in Mansfield. A Trooper who had just been released from court contacted local detectives and received a detailed description of Towell and his vehicle. The Trooper then spotted the vehicle near the intersection of LA HWY 509 and US HWY 84 in Mansfield. As the Trooper began to follow the vehicle, Towell abruptly turned into a parking lot and attempted to speed off, but became blocked in by other traffic. After the Towell’s vehicle came to a stop, the Trooper was able to successfully apprehend Towell and take him into custody. Immediately after, detectives from the Mansfield Police Department and the DeSoto Sheriff’s Office arrived on the scene. An undisclosed amount of money, which was stolen from the bank, was recovered on the Towell in addition to a large knife. After a search warrant was secured for the vehicle, a Browning .22 caliber handgun, which was used in the robbery, was also recovered. Detectives learned the handgun was stolen during a residential burglary, in DeSoto Parish, just prior to the bank robbery. Towell was charged with aggravated burglary of a residence, convicted felon in possession of a firearm, and armed robbery with a firearm. Detectives from the DeSoto Sheriff’s Office and the Mansfield Police Department are handling the investigation. This situation goes to show how fast a criminal can be apprehended due to law enforcement agencies working together. These officers combined their efforts and worked as one today to take a violent criminal off the streets.
