TROOP G - NEWS RELEASE

December 6, 2012
Camp Minden – Explo Update

Louisiana State Police Emergency Services personnel and Explo Systems employees continue to segregate improperly stored propellant and relocate it to proper storage areas. Today, the sixth day of operations, nearly 200,000 pounds of the improperly stored M6 propellant was methodically removed then correctly stored in approved storage magazines. This brings the six day operations total to roughly 2.2 million pounds.

Operations will resume tomorrow (Friday) morning then cease at noon. Operations are scheduled to resume again on Monday, December 10, 2012.

The evacuation order for the area surrounding Camp Minden will be lifted at noon on Friday, December 7, 2012. Restrictions for parts of Camp Minden will remain in effect until the operation is concluded.

Reminder: With the recently updated estimated total of six million pounds of propellant believed to be incorrectly stored and given the small confines of tightly packed corridors personnel are contending with, the evacuation order remains in effect and will remain in effect until Friday at noon. The Louisiana State Police, Webster Parish Sheriff’s Office and Doyline Police Department would like to remind residents that the area has not been deemed safe as of yet and would continue to urge residents to remain outside the evacuated area.

For those who must return, it is recommended they do so after dark when the explosive product is not being handled. This recommendation comes as the safety of all residents is the primary concern as this extraordinary task continues.

Additionally, as a precaution, the Webster Parish Clerk of Courts would like to remind residents that Saturday’s polling location has been relocated from within the current evacuation area to Westlake Baptist Church.
