TROOP G - NEWS RELEASE

December 09, 2011
Two Critically Injured in Head-On Collision in DeSoto Parish

DeSoto Parish – On December 08, 2011, at 5:15 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop G responded to a two-vehicle crash on US 84, just east of LA 510, in DeSoto Parish. The crash sent two Bossier City men to a local hospital with critical injures.

According to investigating troopers, a 2011 Freightliner Ryder rental truck was traveling west on US 84 when, for unknown reasons, the vehicle drifted across the center line and entered the eastbound lane of travel. The Ryder truck then collided head-on with a 2011 Freightliner (tractor trailer) that was traveling east.

After impact, the Ryder truck came to rest in the roadway and the tractor trailer, which lost its load, came to rest partially off the roadway.

The driver of the Ryder truck, 20-year-old Naik Ramanand and his passenger, 40-year-old Norman D. Latcha, both of Bossier City, sustained serious injuries in the crash and were airlifted to Louisiana State University Health Science Center (LSUHSC) in Shreveport. It is unknown if Ramanand and Latcha were wearing their seat belt at the time of the crash.

The driver of the tractor trailer, 52-year-old Nathaniel Anthony of Shreveport, was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash and was not injured.

While not all crashes are survivable, the proper wearing of a seat belt and the correct use of age and size appropriate child restraints are still the best ways to reduce injuries and deaths in traffic crashes.
