| TROOP G - NEWS RELEASE November 16, 2011 Impairment Suspected to be a Factor in Fatal DeSoto Crash A Converse man has died in a single vehicle crash in DeSoto Parish. At about 7:05 am this morning, Louisiana State Police Troop G Troopers responded to a one-vehicle fatal crash on LA 481, about 5.3 miles south of US 84, in DeSoto Parish. The investigation revealed that a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado was traveling south on LA 481 when the driver lost control of the vehicle on ran off the right side of the roadway. The Chevrolet went through a ditch area and struck several trees before overturning onto its left side and coming to rest. The driver, identified as Jacob Springer (27 yoa from Converse, LA), was pronounced dead at the scene by the DeSoto Parish Coroner's Office. Springer was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash. Impairment is suspected to be a factor and toxicology tests are pending. In 2010, about 81 percent of driver fatalities involved lack of seat belt use, alcohol, or aggressive driving. Louisiana State Police would like to remind the public to never drive while impaired or ride with someone who is; always wear a seat belt and properly restrain children; and to drive responsibly with due care for others on the roadway. In 2011,Troop G Troopers have investigated 23 fatal crashes resulting in 26 deaths.
