| TROOP G - NEWS RELEASE August 30, 2011 Unrestrained Driver Ejected and Killed in Rollover Crash Webster – A late night crash on August 29, 2011, in Webster Parish claimed the life of a 37-year-old Minden man. Louisiana State Police Troop G responded to the crash at 11:30 pm which occurred on McIntyre Road, just south of Fuller Road, in Webster Parish. Troopers’ preliminary investigation revealed that 37-year-old Joseph C. Marsh of Minden was traveling north on McIntyre Road, while operating a 2000 GMC pickup, when he entered a curve to the right. Prior to exiting the curve, for unknown reasons, the pickup traveled off the left side of the roadway. Marsh attempted to steer the vehicle back into its lane of travel, but overcorrected to the right. Marsh lost control of the vehicle as it overturned and came to rest off the roadway. Marsh, who was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, was ejected and sustained fatal injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Webster Parish Coroner. Speed is suspected to be a factor in the crash. Toxicology results are pending and the crash remains under investigation. In 2010, approximately 59% of the fatalities that occurred on Louisiana highways were unrestrained at the time of the crash. As the Labor Day holiday approaches, troopers urge motorists to make safety a top priority by properly buckling up, refraining from distracted/impaired driving, and obeying all speed limits. By doing so, motorists can substantially reduce their risk of being involved and/or injured in a crash. Remember, Louisiana law requires that all occupants be properly restrained at all times regardless of their age or seating position. Troop G troopers have investigated 19 fatal crashes for the year of 2011, which resulted in 22 fatalities.
