| TROOP G - NEWS RELEASE January 11, 2012 Two-Vehicle Crash in Red River Parish Kills a Texas Man A two-vehicle crash in Red River Parish has resulted in the death of a Texas man. Louisiana State Police Troop G Troopers responded to the crash on US Hwy 84, about .8 miles west of LA Hwy 1, today at about 12:18 pm. The investigation revealed that a 2007 Toyota SUV was traveling west when the driver attempted to pass several vehicles by crossing into the eastbound travel lane of US 84. The Toyota failed to complete the passing maneuver and struck a eastbound 2011 Mack truck and trailer in a head-on manner. After the initial collision, both vehicles continued off the right side of the roadway for about 270 feet before coming to rest. The driver of the Toyota, identified as Erick Perez (37 yoa from Wylie, TX), was pronounced dead at the scene by the Red River Parish Coroner's Office. Perez was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash. The driver of the Mack truck, identified as Douglas Pullig (51 yoa from Ashland, LA) was not injured in the crash. Impairment is not suspected to be a factor, but routine toxicology tests are pending. While this crash remains under investigation, it is important for motorists to remember that when passing another vehicle you must ensure that you have enough space/distance available to complete to maneuver safely. Louisiana law does not allow for a motorist to exceed the safe or posted speed limit when passing. If being passed by another vehicle, allow that vehicle to pass and re-enter the appropriate travel lane. In 2012, Troop G Troopers have investigated two (2) fatal crashes resulting in two (2) deaths.
