The Ford was north bound on US Hwy 71 when Thomas Jr. lost control and exited the left side of the roadway. After exiting the roadway, the vehicle began overturning.

They are identified as Juhnell Frederick (B/F 37 yrs) of Shreveport, LA, a juvenile (B/M 8 yrs) of Coushatta, LA, and Ja'V'yontus Thomas (B/M 7 yrs). Frederick and the unidentified juvenile received moderate injuries. Thomas Jr., Frederick, and the unidentified juvenile were transported to LSU Medical Center in Shreveport, LA. Ja'V'yontus Thomas was ejected during the crash and was pronounced dead. None of the occupants were properly restrained.

Thomas Jr. was charged with careless operation, no seatbelt, no child restraints, and tire equipment restrictions. Frederick was charged with no seatbelt.

Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation.

Louisiana State Police would like to take this opportunity to remind/inform motorists that properly wearing your seatbelt will dramatically reduce your chance of being injured or killed in a crash. We ask you to take one second to “buckle up!”

In 2012, Troop G Troopers have investigated three (3) fatal crashes resulting in three (3) deaths.
