TROOP G - NEWS RELEASE
May 6, 2012
Teen Killed In DeSoto Parish Crash Early this morning, a single vehicle crash killed a teen from Stonewall, LA.
Troopers responded to the crash around 3:15 am, which occurred on Linwood Avenue north of LA Hwy 3276. The crash involved a 2000 Pontiac Grand Am, driven by Jacob A. Meshell (W/M 18 yrs). The Pontiac was south bound on Linwood Avenue when Meshell lost control and exited the right side of the roadway. After exiting the roadway, the vehicle collided with an embankment and began overturning.
Meshell was not wearing his seatbelt and was partially ejected. He was pronounced dead.
Alcohol usage is a suspected factor.
Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation.
Motorists must be reminded that alcohol has many effects on the body. Alcohol can impair visual ability, alter sense of time and space, impair fine motor skills needed to operate a motor vehicle, and decrease reaction times. Just one drink may cause these effects. Louisiana State Police would like to take this opportunity to remind/inform motorists that properly wearing your seatbelt will dramatically reduce your chance of being injured or killed in a crash. We ask you to take one second to “buckle up!”
Troop G troopers have investigated 6 fatal crashes in 2012, resulting in 6 fatalities.
