Hazardous Material Crash Closes Interstate 20 |

April 18, 2012
Hazardous Material Crash Closes Interstate 20 Around 5:00 pm today, a hazardous material crash, involving two vehicles, has closed Interstate 20 approximately four miles east of Interstate 220.
The crash is involving a Hertz Rental truck and an 18 wheeler. The 18 wheeler is carrying 16,000 lbs of Seismic Booster Powder (explosives) on the trailer. Currently, the east and west bound lanes of Interstate 20 are closed.
East bound traffic is being detoured onto Interstate 220 and then onto US Hwy 80. West bound traffic is being detoured onto LA Hwy 157 and then onto US Hwy 80.
The closure is expected to last several hours. Motorists should avoid the area and use an alternative route. There are not any evacuations at this time.
The occupants involved in the crash have received minor/moderate injuries.
Technicians with Louisiana State Police Hazardous Materials Unit are currently responding as a precautionary measure and to assist in the removal/transfer of the explosives.
