| LOUISIANA STATE POLICE COURTESY LOYALTY SERVICE Colonel Michael D. Edmonson, Superintendent News Release April 7, 2012 Impairment Suspected in Desoto Parish Fatal Crash Early this morning, Louisiana State Police investigated a single-vehicle crash that left one man dead in Desoto Parish. At approximately 12:37 am, troopers investigated a single-vehicle crash on LA Hwy 177, just north of LA Hwy 175, in Desoto Parish. A 2008 Ford Mustang was traveling north on LA Hwy 177 when the driver, 51 year old Ronald. W. Alford of Pelican, LA, failed to negotiate a left hand curve, ran off the right side of the roadway and struck a cement culvert. The vehicle became airborne, struck a large tree, overturned and came to rest upon its roof. The driver, who was restrained at the time of the crash, was transported to LSU – Shreveport, where he was pronounced dead. Alcohol is suspected to be a contributing factor in this crash and routine toxicology tests are pending. Troop G has investigated five fatal crashes which have resulted in five deaths so far this year. While not all crashes are survivable, chances of survival are increased and severity of injuries can be decreased by the proper usage of a seat belt or age/weight appropriate child restraint. Impaired driving continues to be a major contributing factor in Louisiana’s fatal crashes. Louisiana State Police would like to remind motorists not to get behind the wheel after they have consumed any beverage or product which impairs driving abilities. Contact Information: Lt.
