Two Unrestrained Motorists Dead after Red River Parish Crash

Red River Parish – Last night shortly before 10:00 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop G responded to a single vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 509 one mile west of Louisiana Highway 1 that claimed the lives of two Mansfield residents.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2009 Toyota Camry was traveling south on LA 509 when the driver, Frederick D. McDaniel of Mansfield, crossed the center line then steered hard to the right before losing control of the vehicle. The vehicle traveled off the road and struck a tree.

McDaniel and a passenger, 21-year-old Cleshea F. Sudds of Mansfield, were ejected from the vehicle. Neither was wearing a seatbelt and both were pronounced dead at the scene by the Red River Parish Coroner’s Office.

A toxicology sample was obtained from the driver. The crash remains under investigation.

While not all crashes are survivable, wearing a seatbelt greatly reduces the likelihood of serious injury or death in the event of a crash. Louisiana law requires every vehicle occupant, front seat and back seat, to be properly restrained day or night. Buckle up Louisiana. Every trip. Every time.
