TROOP G NEWS RELEASE

May 26, 2014
Fiery Crash Claims the Life of a Ringgold Teen

On May 25, 2014, at 11:50 p.m., Troopers assigned to Louisiana State Police Troop G responded to a single vehicle crash on US 71 just north of the city limits of Coushatta.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 1987 Chevrolet Truck driven by a 16-year-old Nathan Mosley of Ringgold, LA was traveling north on US Highway 71 when the vehicle he was driving entered a slight left hand curve and failed to negotiate it properly running off the right side of the road into a ditch. The Chevrolet then struck a tree and came to rest. Upon impact with the tree, the Chevrolet caught fire and became engulfed in flames with the driver still inside.

The teen was wearing his seat belt, but died as a result of the crash. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Red River Parish coroner’s office.

Alcohol use is not suspected to be a factor in the crash. A toxicology sample was taken and submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation.

While the cause of this crash remains under investigation, inattentive and distracted driving continue to be leading causes of crashes in our state. More information on distracted driving may be found online at www.distraction.gov.

Troop G has investigated 5 fatal crashes this year which have resulted in 5 deaths.
