Troopers Seize Over Three Kilos of Cocaine on Interstate 20

Bossier Parish – On February 10, 2015, Louisiana State Troopers arrested a California man for narcotics charges following a traffic stop on Interstate 20 in Bossier Parish. The traffic stop yielded around three kilos of suspected cocaine.

Shortly before 7:00 a.m., Troopers stopped a 1997 Honda Accord driven by 27-year-old Maurice Richards of Apple Valley, California on I-20 Eastbound near Haughton. During the traffic stop, Troopers requested permission to search the vehicle and Richards gave consent. During a search of the vehicle, Troopers located over three kilos of suspected cocaine hidden in a natural void of the vehicle.

Richards was placed under arrest and booked into the Bossier Parish jail for possession with intent to distribute Schedule II narcotics. The street value of the narcotics is estimated to be around $98,000 and if convicted, Richards could face up to thirty years in prison and up to fifty thousand dollars in fines.

Louisiana State Troopers will continue to provide the citizens of Louisiana a safer community through proactive drug related enforcement and cooperative efforts with local and federal law enforcement agencies. Troopers will target local and multi-state drug trafficking organizations by enforcing all state and federal laws governing the illicit manufacturing, distribution, sale, and use of drugs.
