TROOP G NEWS RELEASE
July 31, 2013
ATV Crash Kills Minor in Red River Parish
On July 31, 2013, at 1:28 a.m., Troopers assigned to Louisiana State Police Troop G responded to a single vehicle fatal crash on Doc Martin Road east of Louisiana Highway 507.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2004 Yamaha ATV 4-Wheeler, driven by 16-year-old Dakotta Huckabay of Coushatta, was traveling east on Doc Martin Road when it entered a curve to the left and traveled off the right side of the road. The Yamaha struck a dirt embankment and overturned.

Huckabay was not wearing a helmet and suffered fatal injuries. Huckabay was pronounced dead on scene by the Red River Parish Coroner’s office.

Alcohol use is not suspected. A toxicology sample was taken and submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation.

The Louisiana State Police would like to encourage everyone that rides an ATV to always wear the proper safety equipment, travel at safe speeds and only ride on designated trails. It is dangerous and illegal to operate off road vehicles (i.e. three wheelers, four wheelers, and other all terrain vehicles) on any public roadways in this state.
