Texas Man Arrested For Road Rage in Webster Parish

On July 10, 2013, at 4:35 p.m., Troopers assigned to Louisiana State Police Troop G responded to a road rage incident involving a gun on Interstate 20 westbound at Minden.

While traveling west on Interstate 20 in Webster Parish the victim noticed a 2008 Toyota Tacoma traveling extremely close on his rear bumper as the driver made inappropriate hands gestures. The driver of the Toyota, 62-year-old Leroy Smith of Ft. Worth, Texas, changed lanes and positioned his vehicle alongside the victim’s vehicle and pointed a handgun at the victim. The victim immediately slowed his vehicle, called 911 and reported the incident.

Troopers located and stopped the Toyota on Interstate 20 about 11 miles west of where the incident took place. Smith admitted to pulling alongside the victim’s vehicle and pointing a loaded .357 handgun at the victim.

Smith was charged with aggravated assault and booked in Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center. If convicted, Smith faces up to a $1,000 fine and six months in prison.

Louisiana State Police would like to remind the public to drive safely and exercise extra patience on the roads. Motorists that witness hazardous or dangerous situations are urged to call *LSP (*577) and report that activity to the Louisiana State Police.
