TROOP G NEWS RELEASE June 26, 2013 Unrestrained Driver Killed in DeSoto Parish On June 25, 2013, at 11:25 p.m., Troopers assigned to Louisiana State Police Troop G responded to a single vehicle fatal crash on U.S. Highway 84 west of Louisiana Highway 481. The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2002 Chevrolet truck, driven by 34-year-old David Lovett of Logansport, was traveling west on U.S. Highway 84 at a high rate of speed and drove off the right side of the road. The Chevrolet drove through a ditch, struck a culvert and began overturning. Lovett was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the Chevrolet. Lovett suffered serious injuries as a result of the crash and was transported to DeSoto Regional Hospital where he died. Alcohol use is suspected. A routine toxicology sample was obtained from Lovett and will be submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation. Making poor decisions in a vehicle, such as driving while impaired, driving while distracted or reckless driving, leads to serious injuries and deaths across the state each year. Making the responsible decision can mean the difference between life and death. Troopers remind motorists to never get behind the wheel of a vehicle after consuming alcohol, never get into a vehicle with an impaired driver, never allow an impaired person to get behind the wheel, and always wear a seatbelt.
