TROOP G NEWS RELEASE
June 19, 2013
Fatal Crash in Webster Parish

On June 18, 2013, at 8:02 p.m., Troopers assigned to Louisiana State Police Troop G responded to a single vehicle fatal crash on Louisiana Highway 518 east of U.S. Highway 79.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2009 Toyota Camry, driven by 18-year-old Joshua Shine of Minden, was traveling east on Louisiana Highway 518 at a high rate of speed when it drove off the road and struck a tree.

Shine was properly restrained. Shine suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Webster Parish Coroner’s Office.

Alcohol use is not suspected. A routine toxicology sample was obtained from Shine and will be submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation.

Speeding reduces a driver’s ability to steer safely around curves or objects in the roadway, extends the distance necessary to stop a vehicle, and increases the distance a vehicle travels while the driver reacts to a dangerous situation. Troopers encourage motorists to observe the speed limit and to drive in a safe and prudent manner.
