TROOP G NEWS RELEASE
April 16, 2013
Fatal Crash In Webster Parish

On April 15, 2013, at 10:14 p.m., Troopers assigned to Louisiana State Police Troop G responded to a two vehicle fatal crash on U.S. Highway 371 at Louisiana Highway 2.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2006 Toyota Corolla, driven by a juvenile, was traveling west on Louisiana Highway 2 when the Toyota approached the intersection of U.S. Highway 371 and stopped at the stop sign. The Toyota then started to cross the northbound lane of U.S. Highway 371 directly into the path of a northbound 2001 Harley-Davidson, driven by 48-year-old Rodney Johnson of Sarepta. The juvenile steered left in an attempt to avoid a crash, which resulted in the Toyota traveling south in northbound lane of U.S. Highway 371. The Harley-Davidson driver started braking, lost control of the motorcycle and was ejected. The Harley-Davidson and the driver struck the Toyota.

Johnson was transported to Springhill Hospital where he died. The juvenile was properly restrained and did not report any injuries.

Alcohol use is not suspected. Routine toxicology samples were obtained and will be submitted for analysis. The juvenile was cited with failure to yield. The crash remains under investigation.
