TROOP G NEWS RELEASE March 9, 2014
The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2008 Toyota YAR, driven by 46-year-old Joseph Abel of Princeton, was traveling west on Interstate 20 in the left lane when it attempted to pass several slower moving vehicles. The Toyota lost control and traveled off the right side of the road, into a ditch, through a wire fence and then started to roll over. The Toyota rolled over several times on the frontage road and then came to rest in a ditch in between Interstate 20 and the frontage road. Abel was wearing his seat belt. Abel suffered serious injuries as a result of the crash and was transported to a hospital in Shreveport where he died. The passenger, 36-year-old Kimberly Abel of Princeton, was wearing her seat belt and reported minor injuries. Impairment on the part of Abel is not suspected. A toxicology sample was taken and submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation. Inattentive and distracted driving is dangerous and is a leading cause of crashes in our state. It is important for motorists to pay attention to what is going on outside of the vehicle they are driving. More information on distracted driving may be found online at the federal government’s official distracted driving website, www.distraction.gov. Troop G has investigated 2 fatal crashes which have resulted in 2 deaths so far this year.
