TROOP G NEWS RELEASE January 01, 2014 Motorcyclist Killed in Crash On January 1, 2014, at approximately 1:18 p.m., Troopers assigned to Louisiana State Police Troop G responded to a one vehicle fatal crash (a motorcycle) on Winnfield Road in Bossier Parish approximately one mile east of Bellevue Road. The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2001 Honda motorcycle, driven by 30-year-old LaByran J. Dotson of Haughton, LA, was traveling east on Bellevue Road when he failed to negotiate a curve. The motorcycle crossed both lanes of travel and a ditch before striking a concrete culvert and ejecting Dotson. As a result of the crash, Dotson suffered fatal injuries. He was wearing a DOT approved helmet. Routine toxicology samples were obtained from the driver and will be submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation. While the exact cause remains under investigation, inattentive and distracted driving continues to be the leading cause of crashes in our state. More information on distracted driving may be found online by visiting www.distraction.gov. Motorcycle awareness license plates are available through the Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles. Please visit their website at www.expresslane.org for more information. Funds generated from the purchase of the plates will be used by the Motorcycle Awareness Campaign to increase awareness and promote/support training and education efforts for motorcyclists. There had been one fatal crash in 2014 resulting in one death in the Troop G area.
