TROOP G NEWS RELEASE December 26, 2013 Sobriety Checkpoint Scheduled for Webster Parish Louisiana State Police Troop G, along with the Webster Parish Sheriff’s Office, will conduct a Sobriety Checkpoint at an undisclosed location in Webster Parish. The checkpoint will take place on December 27, 2013, from 11:30 p.m. until 1:00 a.m. Law enforcement officers will be looking for those drivers who choose to drive impaired during the Christmas holiday weekend. Sobriety checkpoints are effective enforcement tools because they serve as a strong deterrent to impaired driving. The task of stopping impaired drivers is a joint effort of law enforcement agencies as well as the public. By never allowing an impaired driver to get behind the wheel of a vehicle and reporting dangerous drivers to law enforcement, the public can play an important role in the reduction of crashes caused by impaired drivers. Making poor decisions in a vehicle such as driving impaired, driving while distracted and/or not wearing a seatbelt leads to serious injuries and deaths across our state. Troopers stress to drivers that impairment is not only caused by alcohol. If a driver is found to be under the influence of certain narcotic medications or illegal substances, they too can be arrested for DWI. Troopers have a ZERO tolerance for impaired persons found to be operating a motor vehicle in this state. Troop G reminds motorists to drive carefully and make Louisiana’s roadways safe for everyone during the Christmas and New Year’s holidays. If you see an aggressive or impaired driver you can report them by dialing the nearest State Police Troop at *LSP (*577) or by contacting your local law enforcement agency.
