TROOP G NEWS RELEASE August 25, 2013
The preliminary investigation revealed that 1999 Ford Crown Victoria, driven by 48-year-old Newman Davis of Mansfield, was traveling south on Interstate 49 when it exited a curve to the left and drove off the right side of the road. The Ford traveled down an embankment, rotated clockwise and struck a tree on the driver’s side door. Davis was not properly restrained. Davis suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene by the DeSoto Parish Coroner’s Office. Alcohol use is suspected. A toxicology sample was taken and submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation. Seat belts are the most effective safety feature ever invented and have helped save thousands of lives. Sadly, one in five Americans fail to regularly wear a seat belt when driving or riding in a motor vehicle. Many people are seriously injured or killed each year due to impaired driving. It is important to never get behind the wheel if you are impaired or to get in a vehicle with a driver who is impaired. This decision can prevent injury or death to yourself or others. Report impaired drivers by dialing *LSP (*577) from your cellular phone to reach the nearest Louisiana State Police troop location or dial 911 to contact local law enforcement. .
