TROOP G NEWS RELEASE December 03, 2013 Claiborne Parish Fatal Crash On Monday, December 02, 2013, at approximately 1250 hours, Louisiana State Police Troop G investigated a critical injury crash on US 79 at Sanders Road in Claiborne Parish. Jessie Culverhouse of Homer was transported by Life Air Rescue to LSU Health Center in Shreveport with critical injuries due to the crash. The crash occurred when a 2002 Saturn passenger car traveling west on Sanders Road failed to yield at the stop sign at the intersection of US 79 for unknown reasons. The driver, 67-year-old Jessie Culverhouse, pulled directly in front of a northbound tractor trailer driven by 41-year-old Ronald A. Cummings Jr. of Grand Cane. After collision with the tractor trailer, Culverhouseās Saturn traveled off the roadway and overturned. On December 03, 2013, at approximately 2 a.m., Culverhouse died from his injuries suffered from the crash. The driver of the tractor trailer received minor injuries and both drivers were wearing their seat belts. Routine toxicology samples were obtained from each of the drivers and will be submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation. While the exact cause remains under investigation, inattentive and distracted driving continues to be the leading cause of crashes in our state.
