| Troop G News Release - August 25, 2011 Bossier City Man Seriously Injured in ATV Crash Bossier Parish – On August 24, 2011, at 7:57 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop G responded to an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) crash on Caplis Sligo Road, just south of LA 612 (Sligo Road), in Bossier Parish. The crash left a Bossier City man with serious injuries. According to investigating troopers, 52-year-old Robert L. Rivet was traveling north on Caplis Sligo Road while operating a 2007 Kawasaki ATV (4-wheeler) when he entered a bridge. For unknown reasons, the ATV veered right, struck a metal guardrail, and overturned numerous times. Johnson was subsequently ejected from the ATV during the crash. Rivet was not wearing a helmet during the crash and was transported to LSU Health Science Center in Shreveport with serious injuries. Although alcohol is not suspected to be a factor, toxicology test results are pending and the crash remains under investigation. Each year, hundreds of ATV riders, young and old, die or experience life altering injuries from incidents involving ATVs. Louisiana State Police reminds all ATV riders that the operation of such vehicles, which are not specifically designed for road use, are prohibited on all Louisiana roadways. When operating an ATV always remember to wear a DOT approved helmet, protective eye wear, and appropriate clothing which can help protect you in a crash. To ensure safe travel and promote responsible use of ATVs, operators can enroll in an ATV Rider course by calling (800) 887-2887 or by visiting www.atvsafety.org. The course, which covers applicable ATV laws, approved helmet/clothing use, and the safe handling of ATVs, is designed for ages six and older and is taught by a licensed instructor.
