| LOUISIANA STATE POLICE COURTESY LOYALTY SERVICE Colonel Michael D. Edmonson, Superintendent News Release January 13, 2009 Local Hero Cited for Bravery On March 5, 2009, 19 year old Craig Ashley of Coushatta will be honored at the Louisiana State Police Headquarters in Baton Rouge for exceptional bravery. On July 12, 2008, LSP Troop G investigated a crash on LA 1 in Red River Parish involving a dump truck driven by a Shreveport man that resulted in a fire. The dump truck ended up on its driver side beyond the shoulder at the edge of the highway right of way against a tree. A passing motorist stopped and jumped up on top of the burning dump truck and helped pull the truck driver to safety. The truck driver was transported to LSUMC with non-life threatening 1st, 2nd and 3rd degree burns to his hands, arms and head. Mr. Ashley displayed exceptional bravery by putting himself at considerable risk while performing this act and his actions most likely contributed to less severe burns to the truck driver. According to Louisiana State Police Policy and Procedure, “Citizens may be cited for acts of bravery which result in the saving of a human life, or the attempt to do so, at the risk of one’s personal safety”.
