Crash Kills Two Alabama Residents

This evening at about 10:00 PM, troopers began the investigation of a two vehicle crash that killed two Alabama residents.

The crash happened on I-20 as the driver of a passenger car attempted to cross the median from eastbound to westbound directly in front of a tractor trailer. The tractor trailer struck the passenger car broadside sending it off of the roadway to the right and down a steep embankment. The driver and the occupant of the passenger car were killed as a result of the impact. The tractor trailer jackknifed and came to rest in the left of two westbound lanes. The driver of the tractor trailer was not injured and consented to a Blood Alcohol Concentration sample which produced no evidence of impairment.

While the driver of the passenger car could not be identified, the passenger was identified as the owner of vehicle and from Birmingham, Ala.

To this date, Troop G has investigated nine (9) fatal crashes resulting in the death of twelve (12) people for the year 2009.
