Edmonson, Superintendent News Release – July 22, 2010 Unrestrained 20-Year-Old Dies in Fatal Car Crash Haughton- Early this morning, at 4:36 a.m., Louisiana State Police Troop G responded to a single vehicle crash on LA 612 (Sligo Road), 2.7 miles east of US 71 in Bossier Parish, which claimed the life of a 20-year-old male from Bossier City. According to investigating troopers, 20-year-old Brandon L. Copes was driving east on LA 612, in a 2000 Nissan Maxima at a high rate of speed when he failed to negotiate a right curve. Copes lost control of the vehicle, veered off the right side of the road then struck a standing tree on the vehicle’s passenger side. Copes, who was unrestrained at the time of the crash, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Bossier Parish Coroner. Speed is suspected to be a factor in the crash. Routine toxicology test results are pending and the crash remains under investigation. Troop G troopers have investigated 20 fatal crashes for the year of 2010, resulting in 22 fatalities.
