Officers Nearly Struck by Fleeing Suspect

DESOTO PARISH - On July 15, 2010, at approximately 9:11 p.m., troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop G attempted to stop a 2006 Ford pickup for a traffic violation on Interstate 49 northbound near US Hwy 84 in DeSoto Parish.

The driver of the vehicle, Thomas Chad Swan (W/M, 26 yrs old) refused to stop and fled from the trooper at a high rate of speed. Troopers, with the assistance of DeSoto Parish Sheriff’s Deputies, contained Swan when he turned onto a dead end street. As officers exited their vehicles in an attempt to apprehend him, Swan began accelerating towards the officers. Shots were fired by LSP Troopers and DeSoto Parish Sheriff’s Deputies in an attempt to stop the threat. Swan was again able to flee from officers and continued to another dead end road. Swan then exited his vehicle and fled on foot into a nearby wooded area.

Officers were unable to locate Swan and troopers obtained an arrest warrant through the DeSoto Parish District Attorney’s Office for the charges of speeding, aggravated flight from an officer, reckless operation, littering, and driving with a suspended license.

On July 16, 2010, Louisiana State Police Troop G, located Swan at his residence and took him into custody without incident. Swan was booked into the DeSoto Parish Jail.
