Fatal Collision in Red River Parish

A one-vehicle crash in Red River Parish resulted in the death of a two-year-old unrestrained child.

Around 4:00 this morning, Louisiana State Police Troopers responded to the scene of a crash involving a single vehicle off the roadway. The crash occurred when 22-year-old Faye Allums of Coushatta, was travelling south bound along US 371 just north of US 71 and lost control of her vehicle. Evidence at the scene indicated Mrs. Allums was operating her 1997 Chevrolet Cavalier at a high rate of speed as she left the roadway into the ditch, striking a tree and coming to rest back in the travel lanes of US 371. All occupants were unrestrained and as a result all occupants were ejected through the back windshield during the crash.

After the crash, the driver and a five-year-old female child were transported to LSUHSC by ambulance with moderate injuries. The third occupant, two-year-old Lamarcus Thomas, was transported to LSUHSC with critical injuries by Life Air. Later, while at LSUHSC, Lamarcus Thomas was pronounced dead due to his injuries sustained in the crash.

Although impairment is suspected to be a factor in this crash, routine toxicology tests are pending.
