Fatal Collision involving Tanker Truck

A two-vehicle crash in Bienville Parish resulted in one death and one minor injury.

Around 7:00 this morning, Louisiana State Police Troopers responded to the scene of a crash involving an empty tanker truck and a single passenger car just north of Saline on LA 9. The crash occurred when fifty-eight-year-old Joel Norred of Jonesboro was traveling south on LA 9, lost control of his 1995 Buick Century, and struck a northbound tanker truck. Mr. Norred was pronounced dead at the scene as a result of the impact with the tanker truck. The 2009 International tanker vehicle was being driven by forty-two-year-old Lucian Carter, of Robeline, who suffered minor injuries as a result of the crash. Evidence on the roadway documents the location of the impact between the two vehicles, as well as an attempt by the driver of the tanker to avoid the collision within his northbound travel lane.

Mr. Norred was not restrained and his possible impairment is suspected to be a factor in this crash. The investigation is on-going and no citations have been issued. Routine toxicology tests for both drivers are pending.
