TROOP A NEWS RELEASE April 3, 2019 Baton Rouge Man Succumbs to Injuries Sustained in I-10 Crash Iberville Parish – Shortly after 10:30 pm on March 31, 2019, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a two vehicle serious injury crash on Interstate 10 eastbound near the Whiskey Bay exit in Iberville Parish. The crash ultimately resulted in the death of 48-year-old Michael Arcemont of Baton Rouge. The preliminary investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Arcemont was traveling eastbound on Interstate 10 in a 2012 Ford Fusion. For reasons still under investigation, Arcemont’s Ford ran off the left side of the roadway and struck a concrete bridge rail. After striking the railing, Arcemont’s Ford re-entered the roadway where it was stuck by an eastbound 2017 Honda Civic. Arcemont was unrestrained at the time of the crash and sustained serious injuries. He was transported to Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge for treatment. On April 2, 2019, Troop A was notified Arcemont succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the Honda Civic was properly restrained and only sustained minor injuries. Impairment is unknown at this time, but routine toxicology samples were taken and will be submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for further analysis. This crash remains under investigation. Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists that all occupants in a vehicle must be restrained, regardless of seating position. While not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that the chances of surviving a crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Making good choices while in motor vehicles such as never driving while impaired and always ensuring every occupant is properly restrained can often mean the difference between life and death.
