Edmonson, Superintendent News Release November 22, 2009 Fatal Crash in Bienville Parish This evening a Natchitoches man was westbound on LA 4, 4 miles east of US 71 when, according to him, he attempted to avoid a deer in the roadway. The driver, Kevin Stafford, stated he then attempted to avoid striking the deer causing his vehicle travel off the left side of the roadway. Once the vehicle left the roadway, it struck a tree near the front passenger door. A 2 year old male passenger was seated on the front passenger seat. The child was in a booster seat with the shoulder and lap belt on. When vehicle 1 impacted the tree the child sustained a very serious head injury. Life Air Rescue responded and transported the child to LSUHSC where he was later pronounced dead at 1940 hours. Mr. Stafford was transported by private vehicle to LSUHSC with minor injuries. Alcohol use is not suspected. All occupants were restrained. No charges have been filed at this time.
