| LOUISIANA STATE POLICE COURTESY LOYALTY SERVICE News Release May 5, 2008 Troopers Thwart Suicide Attempt On May 4, 2008, Louisiana State Police – Troop G was contacted by a concerned individual of a possible suicide attempt but the potential suicide victim was unable to be located. At approximately 11:15 AM on May 5, 2008, LSP – Troop G received a cell phone complaint in reference to a westbound vehicle which was being driven erratically. The vehicle’s description, a white Chevrolet Suburban, matched the description of the potential suicide victim’s vehicle and was reported to have “run people off the road” while it traveled westbound on I-20, near Goodwill Road. Troopers attempted to initiate a traffic stop; however, the vehicle refused to do stop and proceeded westbound at a high rate of speed. After it exited the interstate at Old Minden Road, it continued through Bossier City, before it re-entered I-20 westbound at Traffic Street and came to a stop near the crest of the Red River Bridge. The driver, Isaac Pope, exited the vehicle and attempted to jump the bridge railing as troopers grabbed him and began to pull him back over the rail. For several moments Mr. Pope hung, inverted, as he clung to the bridge structure while troopers struggled to keep him from succeeding in his suicide attempt. Troopers were able to pull him back over the bridge railing and took him into custody. Bossier City EMS transported the subject to LSUMC where he was held for observation and admittance for psychiatric care. Pending his release from the LSUMC, Isaac Pope will face charges of Driving While Intoxicated and Reckless Operation.
