Man Dies in Red River Crash

On June 6, 2008 at about 12:30 PM, Louisiana State Police Troop G Troopers investigated a one vehicle crash that resulted in the death of a 22 year old man in Red River Parish. The crash occurred south bound on LA 1 approximately two miles north of US 84 when the driver of a 2000 Ford Explorer fell asleep and traveled off the right side of the roadway. The driver left the roadway momentarily then suddenly overcorrected to the left resulting in placing the vehicle in a yaw across both southbound and northbound lanes of LA 1. The vehicle then entered the northbound ditch and rolled multiple times. The front seat passenger, Kentrell T. Demery, age 22, was not restrained, was ejected, and came to rest in a field. Demery was pronounced dead at the scene by the Red Parish Coroner. The driver was restrained but suffered moderate injuries and was transported by ambulance to Willis Knighton Bossier. Two other passengers, children ages six and four, were flown by helicopter to LSU-HSC with what was later determined to be minor injuries. Although there were no age appropriate child restraints in the vehicle, it is unknown at this time if the children were restrained in any seat belt system. Alcohol and drugs are not suspected.
